Message from the president

Dear Commandeurs, dear Friends of Bordeaux wine,

You are at present on the website of the GCVB, which has been completely redesigned so that it is now in line with the legitimate expectations you have expressed to us.

It has been redesigned taking into account the ease of completing tasks that Internet now gives us.  So registration for the World Congress, to be held from 16th to 18th September 2020, will be done only by accessing the “Commandeur’s Section” of the website, with private access.

This private access section of the website is reserved for you.  It must be a shield to protect against any sales strategy and that is why it is only possible to gain access to the “Commandeur’s Section” by using your e-mail address and your password.  This part of the website contains lots of information eagerly awaited by the majority of you.

Any suggestions you may have and would like to share with us with the aim of improving the website will be welcome.

Putting the website online has required many long hours of work.  We are making every effort to ensure that it is proactive and enables an exchange between you and the Grand Conseil, between you the Commandeurs, between you and the men and women of Bordeaux’s vines and wines.

Within the GCVB, a number of projects have developed:

·         the refurbishment of our premises …. the last coat of paint dates back 20 years!

·         the organisation of the World Congress 2020, which should bring together 400 people from all over the world

·         in collaboration with the Bordeaux Wine School / L’Ecole du Vin, a week of wine training for

one “Educator” per Commanderie

·         and most importantly, maintaining direct contact with the Commanderies, as we have done over the past few years.

My 3-year term of office as Grand Maître of the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux comes to an end on 17th October 2019.  Hubert de Bouärd will undoubtedly be elected as Grand Maître during the next meeting of the Privy Council. Hubert de Bouärd will continue to develop the projects mentioned above during his mandate.

Although 40 years of friendship have enabled me to enjoy moments spent in Hubert’s company, our professional paths have also crossed several times.  On these occasions, I was able to realise how professional and selfless Hubert is in his service rendered to others, despite the tribulations this commitment can create.  I will always remain available for him to ensure a smooth transition in the role of Grand Maître he will take on.

He will be able to count on Caroline Delaroche, the backbone and guardian of the history of the GCVB for more than 17 years, on Anne-Marie Capdemourlin, who works promptly, particularly on the website and of course, on the members of the Privy Council.

So, I step down, but with a wealth of friendships I have formed with many of you, with unique encounters that will obviously become much rarer, but I am also relieved, because despite the pride sensed for managing an association like the GCVB, one has to be present day to day, make oneself extremely available to the detriment of one’s family and of one’s own activities…

If I had to do it all again, I would; only the age limit established for this role will not allow me to do so.  But there is no age limit for me ensuring Hubert of my full support, a small contribution to his role as Ambassador of the excellence of our Bordeaux Wines.

Dear Commandeurs, dear Friends, this is only goodbye for now!

Bordeaux, toujours Bordeaux.

With my friendly regards,

Francis Boutemy.
