Richard Tolley - Maître of the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Denver

The Denver Commanderie de Bordeaux embarked on an exciting "In Market Wine Challenge" on April 15^th, 2025.

We carefully selected 7 red Bordeaux wines that were easily accessible in Denver area retail stores. All 7 wines hailed from the prestigious Margaux appellation, shared the same 2020 vintage, and were of comparable price points and quality.

The wines featured in this event included the following, all from the 2020 vintage:

• Château Marquis d'Alesme

• Château du Tertre

• Château Durfort-Vivens

• Château Lascombes

• Château Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer

• Château Cantenac Brown

• Château Malescot St Exupéry

Fifteen Commandeurs indulged in a delightful evening, tasting these wines "blind." Each Commandeur was tasked with choosing the wine they found most captivating. With all the wines originating from the same appellation and vintage, the similarities were abundant, making it a challenge to distinguish them. Not a single wine was met with dislike; each one stood as a remarkable choice for any occasion. Ultimately, one wine emerged as the favorite among the majority of Commandeurs. The 2020 Château Malescot St Exupéry was the most appreciated wine by our Commandeurs.

The Commanderie de Bordeaux in Denver was pleased to present subsequently to Château Malescot Saint Exupéry a Certificate of Award and photos of this event.
