Message from Stéphane Benoist - Maître of the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Singapore

Dear Maîtres,

Dear Commandeurs,

As you may have read or heard, our former Maître Jeremy Ramsey passed away on the 13^th of January 2022.

Jeremy was not only one of the founders of our Commanderie de Bordeaux Singapore but its first Maître, and this for over ten years. Under his efficient and forward leadership, our Commanderie quickly became a well-established society that enabled its members and friends to better understand Bordeaux as a leading wine region in the world and to appreciate the delicious wines it produces.

We should remember that the knowledge and appreciation of wine were not yet very widespread in this region when our Commanderie was established back in 1985. In that sense, Jeremy was one of the key persons for the successful promotion of Bordeaux wines. As a matter of fact, this role started even earlier when, in 1956, Jeremy was put in charge by the Borneo Company of its Wines and Spirits Department. His easy and warm disposition enabled Jeremy to develop a wide circle of friends that led, among others, to being elected as President of the International Wine & Food Society in Singapore. For his services to French wine, Jeremy was awarded in 1992 the award of Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole.

After retiring from his post as Managing Director of Rolex Singapore in 2000, Jeremy devoted his time to his art (www.jeremyramsey.com).

We have lost a pillar and a dear member of our Commanderie de Bordeaux in Singapore. Jeremy will be fondly remembered and deeply regretted.
