Harvests for the 2021 Vintage in Bordeaux vineyards

Harvests for red grapes began towards mid-September, for the majority of Bordeaux vineyards, to gather Merlot grapes firstly. Right at the beginning of October, the later-ripening varieties (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon) are waiting to be picked.

In 2021, harvest quantity will decrease sharply, because weather conditions of this vintage were really complicated (springtime frost, followed by hail, the summer did not give enough sunshine, but quite often huge downpours of rain…)

In September, cool nights will give an advantage to obtain a superb level of acidity in the wines.

Despite the difficulties, we can observe in this period of early autumn that the quality of the grape bunches is superb and the weather is relatively mild, with some days of bright sunshine at present, to allow winegrowers to get their grapes safely inside the vat house.
