The Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux and all its members share the grief of Madame Florence Cathiard, her children and the team at Château Smith Haut-Lafitte.

Daniel Cathiard was an outstanding personality of Bordeaux wines, an inspiring and highly esteemed person.

Mrs Florence Cathiard wishes to send you the following message.

Dear friends and partners,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Daniel passed away last night, following a sudden illness that only became known to us on December 30^th.

Until the very end, Daniel remained true to himself and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He faced these final days with remarkable grace, always thinking first of others and helping make this difficult time gentler for his loved ones.

Just yesterday evening, he encouraged Florence to travel to Paris to attend a ceremony at the Élysée, where their daughter Alice and son-in-law Jérôme were awarded the Légion d’honneur during a beautiful ceremony. Shortly afterward, we received the heartbreaking news of his passing.

Daniel’s greatest wish was the happiness of his family, today more united than ever, and of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
