Bordeaux 2019 Vintage Tasting

Commanderie de Bordeaux in Boston - Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux

The 2019 Vintage wine samples were distributed to members of the Commanderie’s Management Team. Some samples were tasted by several Team members and others by just one taster.

A discussion was held by the group via videoconference on Monday 6th July 2020, following their analysis.

The wines considered as the best among the tasting gave the best “terroir expression”, finest balance and depth of flavour. 

The favourites of this tasting were:  

Château Siran
Château Latour Martillac
Cuvée Clémence  

Comments members made about the quality of the 2019 Vintage wines mentioned : 

– Purity of fruit
– Depth of flavor without heaviness
– Lively acidity
– Ripe, generous character
– Excellent expression of terroir 

Overall, there was great enthusiasm for the Bordeaux 2019 Vintage 

In general, the wines showed well and there were several advantages to tasting the wines in the USA:  

– Excellent stability
– It was similar to what would be expected a tasting with samples from barrel in Bordeaux
– It gave the possibility to follow wines over several hours and this was generally very positive 

Conclusions 

Commandeurs were very enthusiastic about the 2019 Vintage, appreciating its natural ripeness without excess 

Holding a tasting virtually was generally favorable to the wines .
Commandeurs found the tasting more leisurely with more time for contemplation, compared to the usual en Primeur tastings held at the châteaux in Bordeaux
