Commanderie de Bordeaux in Paris. Publication of the book, "1855, Culte & Cultures"

As you all know, the historical vocation of the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux is to promote the renown and influence of Bordeaux wines worldwide.

Towards this objective, we are happy to showcase an initiative led by Arnaud Saiag – the President of the Wine Committee of the Commanderie de Bordeaux à Paris – who is currently contributing to the publication of “1855 – Culte & cultures”, a landmark literary, artistic and historical project on the 1855 Classified Growths of Bordeaux led by Nicolas Kenedi (gastronomy expert) and Jean-Maurice Sacré (collector of over 4,000 historical menus) and published by Éditions Dilecta.

This iconic work, unique in the world of wine, marks a turning point in the history of Bordeaux by showcasing all the Grands Crus Classés through the lens of the grand dinners at which they were served, from the French Revolution to the present day, for each of the 88 classified Châteaux from both Médoc and Barsac/Sauternes.

Across its 500 pages, the 1855 Classification becomes an invitation to journey through the finest vineyard sites, illustrated by some of the most emblematic and rare menus that served each château, accompanied by enlightening texts by historian Guillaume Picon and portraits of châteaux by author and wine expert Gabrielle Vizzavona. Prince Joachim Murat, Jean Tulard, Xavier Mauduit, François Audouze are also among the distinguished contributors.

Limited to 400 numbered copies, this collector’s boxed set is bound in full canvas with hot-stamped title and certificate of authenticity, printed in France by Manufacture d'Histoires Deux-Ponts. It also contains six prints of previously unpublished black-stone drawings by French painter Philippe Cognée. A true must-have for any Bordeaux lover!

The book (in French) is available for worldwide, and to mark its release a series of remarkable dinners will be held around the world celebrating the timeless dialogue between Bordeaux’s Grands Crus Classés, culture and art de vivre.
