The CIVB and the city of Liverpool have worked closely for many years. Four events of the Bordeaux Wine Festival have been held in Liverpool since 2018. In 2024, Liverpool was the Guest of Honour city at Bordeaux Fête le Vin in Bordeaux.
In collaboration with the CIVB, the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux prepared the opening of a Commanderie de Bordeaux in Liverpool, on 20th March 2025.
For this occasion, the delegation travelling from France was comprised of the following participants:

Commanderies de Bordeaux
Maître Colin Smith – from the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Manchester and his wife Margaret, also attended this opening event in Liverpool.
The inauguration of the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Liverpool, was held at the Art School Restaurant, in Liverpool.
At 5pm, a welcome reception and an extensive tasting of Bordeaux wines was held in The Art School Cellars.
At 6.40 pm, the official ceremony to open the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Liverpool was held in the Lantern Room of The Art School Restaurant.
Paul Askew, is the Chef and owner of The Art School Restaurant and he was inducted as the Maître of this new Commanderie.
Paul ASKEW - Maître of the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Liverpool
Paul Askew is a renowned British Chef and a key figure in Liverpool's culinary scene. Chef and owner of The Art School restaurant since 2014, he has contributed to the growth of gastronomy in the North West of England. With a career spanning 40 years, he ran The London Carriage Works and co-founded Barnacle in 2021. He is co-president of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (Northern Branch) and President of the Liverpool Restaurant Association, actively involved in the training of young chefs. His restaurant has won numerous awards, including the Visit England Excellence Taste of England Award in 2017. Paul is also passionate about wine, particularly Bordeaux wines. In 2018, he was inducted as an Honorary Ambassador of Bordeaux Wines by the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux and played a key role in organising Bordeaux Fête le Vin in Liverpool.
Bill Addy, Managng Director of Liverpool BID Company, was inducted as the Vice-Maître. 5 Commandeurs were also inducted at this occasion.

Chief Executive of Liverpool BID Company, Reverend Canon Bill Addy is a chartered building manager and has served as CEO of Liverpool BID Company (Business Improvement District) since March 2013. He manages Liverpool's three BIDs: Retail and Leisure, Culture and Commerce, and the new Accommodation BID district. These districts cover 120 hectares of Liverpool and are home to 1,500 businesses employing over 70,000 people. The Retail and Leisure BID is in its 19th year of operation after successfully passing its 5th renewal vote in 2018. The Culture and Commerce BID was successfully renewed in 2021 for a five-year term. Bill is currently Chair of the Liverpool Visitor Economy Network (LVEN), a former Chair of The BID Foundation, and a member of the Liverpool Beatles Legacy Group. He is also a Church of England priest, serving at Liverpool Parish Church, and devotes some time to his beloved club, Everton FC.
At the close of the ceremony, at 7.30 pm, a Gala Dinner for 70 guests was held.
