Commanderie de Bordeaux in the Netherlands. Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Tasting, at the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam, 4th March 2024

As a Bordeaux lover through and through, this annual tasting event is something you should not miss. So the wait for the clock to strike was more than worth it to taste the 2021 wines from 100 top wine houses.

As soon as we entered, the mood was good and together with other wine friends we continued our way, starting with left bank white , after which we crossed to right bank red and eventually returned to left bank red and ended with the sweet white .

We started by tasting wines from Graves and Pessac Léognan , including Château Smith Haut Lafitte , Château Pape Clement and the friendly Château Olivier .

The crossing within the Zuiderkerk was small, but immense in terms of taste transition to the red of the right bank , where Saint-Emilion , being a Juradiist , attracted our attention; starting with Château La Dominique, followed by Château Pavie Macquin velvety soft, through to Château Larcis Ducasse , Château La Tour Figeac , Château Larcis Ducasse and ending at Château Troplong Mondot and Château Valandraud .

It was fantastic, after going up to the mezzanine, to assess with some wine friends which wines we consider to have the most potential to age beautifully. After all , “Bordeaux toujours Bordeaux” is the motto! We now arrived at the left bank where, among others, Château Phélan Ségur from Saint-Estèphe, Château Kirwan and Château Giscours both from the Margaux were presented to us.

After the final descent from the mezzanine, things started to get sweet; of which Château La Tour Blanche and Château Bastor-Lamontagne made a great impression on us. We then concluded this impressive UGCB tasting by an evaluation dinner with Noël Vanwittenbergh at De Koninklijke IGC.
