Bordeaux 2021 Vintage Tasting, by the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Denver

Commanderie de Bordeaux in Denver

Bordeaux 2021 VintageTasting

Maître Clif Louis

The Commanderie de Bordeaux in Denver tasted 24 Bordeaux wines from the 2021 Vintage. This event was conducted on Monday, June 13th 2022 at the home of Commandeur Rich Tolley and was attended by 10 Commandeurs and 2 guests. In general all these wines were surprising approachable, even at this young stage. Most of the red wines, took a little coaxing to eventually reveal the nose, but these wines seemed to follow the general theme of the vintage. The specific review comments below are a summary of the numerous individual reviewers’ comments. The Denver Commanderie thoroughly enjoyed this event and hope the Chateaux and winegrowers will find our feedback helpful.

Clos Floridene

The nose shows nice peach, strawberry and lemon notes. Some light minerality and tropical fruits and flowers also present. The palate is soft, with light acidity and a very crisp and clean finish. A very nice wine.

Chateau Goudichaud

A nice floral and flower nose. Light to medium acidity and minerality on the palate. A very nice, crisp and approachable wine!

Chateau De Rayne Vigneau

Great nose of pear, citrus, limestone, and honey notes. Excellent full-body, well balanced Sauternes. This is going to be an excellent Sauternes!

Chateau Couhins

Delicate floral notes with minerality shining through. A good dry finish with average acidity which will allow this wine to age nicely.

Chateau Luchey Halde

Nice fruity nose. On the palate, nicely balanced, good minerality and light lemon fruit, with a crisp finish.

Chateau Landereau

Straw color in the glass. Nose of pear and pineapple. The Semillon seems to shine. On the palate, bright, crisp, soft fruits and good acidity. This wine would be lovely on a warm/hot day spent on the patio!

Chateau Landereau La Vie en Rose

A very light clean fruity nose. Good acidity on the palate. Simple but yet very pleasant

Chateau Branaire Ducru

A very reserved nose of fruit and light flowers, with fruit dominating. On the palate, the tannins are light, yet still overwhelm the fruit at this early stage. This is a very elegant less powerful wine at this point. Nice acidity which should help this wine evolve over the next several years.

Chateau Castera

Opens with a very light nose of berry fruit and minerality. On the palate, light tannic structure and nice medium finish.

Chateau Fombrauge

A light ruby color in the glass. A nice nose of red and blue fruits/berry, with hints of white rose, vanilla and pine. On the palate, good acidity, light fruit, well integrated tannins, well balanced with nice finish. A very enjoyable wine!

Chateau Fougas

In the glass a dark ruby color. Nose opens with dark fruits and cherry, yet still very closed. On the palate, a light tannic structure yet well balanced wine.

Chateau Gaby

On the palate, light tannic structure, slightly acidic and fruit does not shine at this point. Finish is soft.

Chateau Grand Corbin Manuel

One of the highlights of the tasting. In the glass, very dark ruby to purple color. Clove and allspice on the nose, yet very subtle. Full bodied, complex, well balanced with subtle tannins. Drinking wonderfully even at this very early age.

Chateau La Création

Opens with a nose of red fruits and light vanilla. Complex palate, yet still young and closed with a light tannic structure, finishes nice and smooth.

Chateau Guibot La Fourvielle

A light nose with hints of spice, cedar and vanilla. The palate has well integrated tannin with vanilla and hints of cherry with a nice finish.

Chateau Haut Goujon

A nose of light red fruits with wood and mineral notes. Very full bodied, balanced with well-integrated tannin. A bit grippy and tight but still a great tasting wine.

Chateau Lascombes

One of the best wines in the tasting. Classic Margaux. Opens with old world nose of berry. Some subtle hints of leather. On the palate rich and smooth cherry and plum flavors with soft tannins. Very nice!

Chateau Lauduc L’Invincible

Light fruity nose of jammy plum. Palate is very light with some berry flavors and light tannins. Smooth, approachable and ready to drink.

Chateau Laffitte Carcasset

A discreet nose, but fruit forward. Full bodied with strong tannins. Needs time.

Chateau Reaut

Dark ruby color, leaning toward purple. A very subtle nose of white/pink rose petals, with hints of sage and bitter sweet chocolate. Good balance and bright acidity on the palate. Very soft finish.

Chateau Laroze

Opens with a very light fruity nose of peach, and subtle hints of wild flowers. Nice rounded tannins on the palate, with nice ripe fruit flavors. The wine shows good aging potential!

Chateau Gardut Haut Cluzeau

Displaying a deep ruby color. Nose opens with red cherry fruit. On the palate, a very nice light clean, fresh cherry flavor, not overly tannic.

Chateau Jalousie Beaulieu Cuvee Prestige

Dark ruby color in the glass. At this early stage the nose is very reluctant to emerge. Firm palate with smooth finish of light fruits and spices.

Chateau Olivier

Bright red / crimson in the glass. The nose is a bit reluctant, but with a little coaxing reveals nice notes with delicate traces of vanilla, cherry and plum. Full bodied, well balanced, fresh and smooth on the palate, but yet still a young wine. Shows good aging promise.
