His name is Omar Barbosa, he arrived from Mexico in 2016 to study for a Master in Wine Economics at the University of Bordeaux, and he won with flying colours the Bordeaux Wine French Sommelier Competition, held on November 20^th as part of the Exp'Hôtel exhibition.

During this competition, jointly organised by the CIVB and the Union de la Sommellerie Française Nouvelle-Aquitaine, nine candidates, all catering professionals, took written and practical tests before a jury of six wine professionals. The runners up, in second and third place, were Maxime Plessard (Cave à manger, Le Métropolitain) and William Riquet (Le Consonance).

Currently responsible for reception and training for the Bordeaux wine merchant Barton & Guestier, Omar Barbosa has become, over the years, "from Bordeaux at heart" and an excellent ambassador for Bordeaux wines: "There is no region equivalent, in France or even in the world, capable of producing such a range of wine styles and wines of such quality. When you live here, you see the work of the winegrowers and that commands respect."
