King Charles III's visit to Bordeaux


On Friday 22nd September 2023, King Charles III and Queen Camilla came for a short visit to Bordeaux and its region.

When he came to the Place de la Bourse in the early afternoon, for the "British Village", GREAT exhibition, served by the President of Bordeaux wines-CIVB, Allan Sichel, the British sovereign tasted a Bordeaux wine, of course.

It was an organic wine, 100% Merlot, produced by the winegrower Noémie Tanneau, from Château St Ferdinand, in AOC Lussac Saint-Emilion.  
Noémie Tanneau is a newcomer to the world of winemaking and she won the "Vigneronne engagée de l'année" trophy just a few months ago.

Programme of this official Royal Visit:


1 pm
: arrival of the Royal couple at Mérignac Aiport

1.45 pm: Bordeaux City Hall - Ecologist Mayor Pierre Hurmic receives King Charles III and Queen Camilla for a short reception and a tree planted in the gardens of Bordeaux City Hall to mark the occasion of this Royal visit.

2 pm: visit of the frigate HMS Iron Duke, warship of the Royal Navy

Via the Bordeaux Tramway, the King and Queen travel from the Place des Quinconces to the Place de la Bourse

2.15 pm: "British Village", GREAT exhibition.  An event organised by the British Tourist Board.  1 500 participants : key figures of the Bordeaux economy, tourism professionals, influencers, journalists etc...

5 pm : King Charles III visits an experimental forest in Floirac.  Queen Camilla visits an association, "Le Pain de l'Amitié".

5.30 pm: a visit and wine tasting at Château Smith Haut-Lafitte, Martillac in the AOC Pessac-Léognan, welcomed by owners Florence and Daniel Cathiard.  This wine esate has been strongly committed to environmental protection for many years and has won numerous awards.
