Dear Commandeurs, Dear Inductees,

This evening the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Wallonia receives its Commandeurs and Inductees in a hotspot of Brabant gastronomy.

We missed this type of event during the two years of the paralysing pandemic, which prevented us organising such occasions.

Thank you for so many of you coming, 50 in all. You have warmed my heart.

It encourages us to continue to hold such events to promote Bordeaux with passion in Wallonia.

“Une Autre Histoire” was established in 2002, a little more than 20 years ago.

But what a fortunate coincidence that Benoît and Geneviève, the happy owners, are neighbours of the Commanderie’s head office. Time has enabled us to get to know one another better and become friends, true friends …..

Benoît is a chef, a real chef……

A happy Benôit results in the most flavorsome creations which will be presented to before you for our greatest pleasure this evening, starting with tasty medallions of quail cooked at low temperature, accompanied by smoked foie gras, followed by beef roasted on a hot grill plate, with Bordeaux sauce and crushed pepper, served with carefully chosen garnish. To finish some delicious desserts created by the pastry chef….

This evening we welcome you in prestigious company. Firstly yours! What a delight to be able to welcome so many of you again at one of our events in this 2023 vintage.

No less than 4 activities this year, including a trip to the Blaye area of Bordeaux, from 17th to 21st May, organised as a real gift of friendship by the Connétablie de Blaye, which is so kindly welcoming us. A little later, we have the honour of a visit by the Wine Brotherhood Les Gentilshommes de Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac, on 9th June, at the occasion of our formal Induction Ceremony event.

Let us move on now to the reason for your presence here this evening: to discover a winegrower and owner of properties in the Bordeaux region, who will bring a gleam to the showcase of our Embassy of Bordeaux in Wallonia, by presenting his wines and by his presence.

Thank you for giving a warm welcome to Mr Romain Rivière, accompanied by his delicious wife, Ikumi.

Romain is owner and joint-owner of Châteaux La Croix-Taillefer (Pomerol), Château Vieux Rivière (Lalande-de-Pomerol), Clos Geyrosse (Saint-Emilion), Château Moulin du Sud (Bordeaux Supérieur) and Château Beau Soleil (Pomerol).

You will have the opportunity this evening to discover all these wines while listening to his expert, cheerful and fascinating comments, to speak about two wines in Pomerol, one in Lalande-de-Pomerol, one in Saint-Emilion and one in Bordeaux Supérieur.

He has also prepared an order form and has kindly accepted to present it to us during this evening for our greatest pleasure. We will share it with Commandeurs absent this evening.

Please give Romain and Ikumi your best welcome, so that they return to Bordeaux with their eyes, their hearts and their minds full of your warmth and our unfailing friendship.

Thank you Romain, thank you Ikumi for having travelled 1 800 km in total to come and share these moments of closeness and friendship with us. Thank you too for having provided us with all these wines to taste.

So this evening, let us thank them for having made these exceptional wines and let us now taste them with the people who made them.

This is what is means to be a Commandeur de Bordeaux.
