Bordeaux 2021 Vintage Tasting, by the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Palm Beach

The Bordeaux 2021 Vintage Tasting, for the Palm Beach Commanderie was coordinated by John Nihoff, Caviste for the Commanderie and was held on 11th June 2022, at the Sailfish Club in Palm Beach.

The team of tasters at this event was comprised of:

• John Nihoff – Commanderie Caviste
• Wine professionals from Café Boulud
• Wine professionals from Carriage House
• Wine managers / educators
• Head of a wine club
• 2 Commandeurs

Here are the detailed tasting notes

2021 New Vintage Bordeaux Wines 

Bordeaux dry white and rosé

1. Château Landereau – group favorite, bright, very aromatic

2. Clos Floridene – fresh acidity, flower filled aromas

3. Château Luchey-Halde (Pessac Leognan) – really good and fresh, nutty , hazelnut

4. Château Couhins (Pessac Leognan) – light on palate but bright aromas

5. Château Goudichaud – soft on the nose, light on palate

6. Château Landereau - La Vie en Rose – similar to a lovely Côtes de Provence rosé, light, fresh, lovely

These wines are fresh and aromatic with blossoming flavors. Percentage of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes leaving them slightly comparable to Sancerre Whites.


Red Bordeaux

7. L’Invincible Château Lauduc – 100% merlot, very light, fresh, soft tannins

8. Château Jalousie Beaulieu – smooth tannins, good blend of cab/merlot, soft and not too dry.

9. Château Gardut Haut Cluzeau – rounded flavor

10. Château Fougas Maldoror- soft on the palate

11. Château Réaut- enjoyable, showing nice fruit depth and aging potential, great blend.

12. Château Gaby(Fronsac)- dark, balanced acidity, really good blend

13. Château Castera (Medoc)- soft tannins, dark fruit, light but smooth

14. Château Laroze (St Emilion)- very good with dark fruits, soft tannins

15. Château Grand Corbin Manuel (St Emilion)- light fruit, supple tannins, good

16. Château Guibot (St Emilion)- light fruits, supple tannins, soft but good

17. Château Fombrauge (St Emilion)- light tannins, soft, very good

18. Château La Création (Pomerol)- promising future, great buy

19. Château Haut-Goujon(Lalande de Pomerol)- very good, tasty, promise of future development

20. Château Oliver (Pessac Leognan)- High future potential

21. Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)- good bottle

22. Château Lascombes (Margaux)- a favorite, balanced of soft tannins and dark fruits, will age well

23. Château Laffitte Carcasset (St Estèphe) balanced tannins and dark fruits

Great new Bordeaux wine all will age nicely. Right bank and Pomerol are showing very well. All very promising future wines.

Sauternes

24. Château Rayne Vigneau Sauternes – soft, sweet, light, and will age beautifully
