The Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux
October 15, 2026Douala joins the family of the Commanderies de Bordeaux
On 15 October 2026, the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux (GCVB), in collaboration with the Bordeaux Wine Council (CIVB), inaugurated the Commanderie de Bordeaux in Douala, Cameroon.
To mark the occasion, a GCVB delegation comprising six winemakers travelled to Cameroon, alongside nine other winemakers and wine merchants representing the diversity of Bordeaux wines.
The event brought together more than 150 local wine professionals, including importers, restaurateurs, sommeliers and wine merchants. The programme featured a press conference, masterclasses, a Gala Dinner, a wine tasting and a business lunch, giving participants the opportunity to discover a wide range of Bordeaux wines and meet the people who produce and represent them.
The induction ceremony was one of the highlights of the inauguration. Mirella Nzia Batonga was inducted as Master of the new Commanderie de Bordeaux in Douala. Mr Jean-Charles Ledot, Consul General of France in Douala, was also inducted, alongside nine other Commandeurs, bringing together the founding members of this new community of Bordeaux wine enthusiasts.
From wines already established on the Cameroonian market to cuvées yet to be discovered, these meetings provided an opportunity to forge new contacts and strengthen ties between Bordeaux and Douala.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the Bordeaux wine brotherhoods for their generous donations of wines, which contributed to the success of these events and enabled our guests to discover the diversity of Bordeaux appellations.
