At the end of July, the Bordeaux wine industry and the Union Bordeaux Bègles Rugby Club joined forces to thank and pay tribute to the courage of firefighters of the Gironde who, throughout the summer, battled against violent forest fires in Landiras and La Teste-de-Buch.  "Our wish was to give them 1 000 tickets for a rugby match and 1 000 bottles of Bordeaux wine".

Thanks to the generosity of Bordeaux winegrowers and merchants, rallied into action by the FDSEA (Departmental Federation of Syndicates for Agricultural farms), the Wine Trade Federation and Bordeaux wine syndicates, in the end a total of 5 028 bottles were in fact collected.

The announcement was made at the match that opened the rugby season, with Bordeaux versus Toulouse, at the end of August, to which the Union Bordeaux Bègles rugby Club invited 1 000 firefighters and their families to come and see the match.

Before kick-off, 70 firefighters received hearty applause from the public during a tour of honour around the pitch of the Chaban-Delmas stadium, while Allan Sichel, President of the CIVB, accompanied by Laurent Marti, President of UBB, presented a Melchior
(18 litres) of Bordeaux wine to Commanding Officer Salem Maizi.
