Bordeaux 2019 Vintage Tasting - Commanderie de Bordeaux in Atlanta - 9th July 2020

Commanderie de Bordeaux in Atlanta – Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux

Bordeaux 2019 Vintage En Primeur Tasting - Thursday 9th July 2020

Maître Doug Bryant
Commanderie de Bordeaux in Atlanta

“The tasting was a success; we staggered the arrival times for the tasters to give them enough time to evaluate the wines in a safe environment. The tasting was held outside on my veranda with plenty of space to social distance.

The overall opinion of the vintage was “very good”. The left bank might have had a slight advantage but we found the quality of both the left and right bank to be similar. The whites as well as the rosés were well made and pleasing to taste. The sweet wines were a big success with several of the tasters. "

Comments from Kelleen Hubbs :

"I’m certainly more Left Bank leaning although I did enjoy La Cabanne (Pomerol).

Red currant fruit, nice elegance in style for the higher pedigree reds, good tannic structure and even given the temperature I only felt alcohol on the lesser reds.

The de Myrat Sauternes was absolutely fantastic and probably my favorite of the selection.

My favourties were (in no particular order):

Château de Myrat , Château Siran, Château Latour-Martillac, Château La Cabanne, Château Caroline (this was a big surprise!), Château de Pitray (an established value).

Comments from Brendan Young:

"Overall, we didn’t detect a significant quality difference between Left and Right Banks. Margaux showed well, but that may just be my natural preference coming out!

There are a few we’ve made a note to look for in the store in future:  Château Caroline , Château Siran, Château Latour-Martillac, Château Grand Corbin, Château Loupiac-Gaudiet,
